W. Theodore Koch III is a founding partner of Koch, Garg & Brown, whose primary areas of practice include criminal defense, appellate law, and habeas corpus litigation, in both state and federal courts. Ted has a B.A. in English from Columbia University and a J.D. from Quinnipiac University School of Law in 2004.

Ted is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association and the executive board of the Connecticut Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He is admitted to the practice of law in Connecticut, the United States District Court, District of Connecticut, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Prior to forming Koch, Garg and Brown, Ted operated a solo practice and also worked with his father, William T. Koch, Jr. He is an experienced and successful litigator and negotiator who emphasizes listening to and compassion for his clients, with a rigorous representation in trial court, appellate court and beyond. Notably, Ted represented former Latin King member Luis Noel Cruz in various federal post-conviction proceedings, seeking to have his sentence reduced as a result of Mr. Cruz’s relative youth at the time of his offenses. After years of litigation, Ted’s zealous advocacy resulted in a federal judge reducing Mr. Cruz’s four consecutive life sentences to a 30-year sentence, resulting in his immediate release.

Ted was formerly on the Town of East Lyme’s Inland Wetlands Commission. He lives in Niantic with his wife and two children and enjoys playing drums in his band in his spare time.
